Global salmon production will increase by almost 5 percent in 2022 helped by an expected return to growth in Chile, according to the Global Seafood Alliance's (GSA) annual production survey.

Salmon production across the world in 2021 is forecast to grow 4.4 percent, said Rabobank senior analyst Gorjan Nikolik, who presented survey results during the 2021 virtual GOAL conference.

This follows 5.2 percent growth in 2020.

Looking further ahead, in 2023 production is forecast to expand by less than 3 percent, but is also set to break through the 3 million-metric-ton barrier for the first time.
