Maine-based Xcelerate Aqua, founded by the former heads of Norway land-based salmon company Nordic Aquafarms Inc., is close to unveiling the details of two new projects it is planning for the East Coast of the United States.

Permits are in place for the first 10,000-metric ton recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) project in the Northeastern United States, which is in its first phase of 5,000 metric tons, according to Xcelerate Aqua Managing Partner Marianne Naess.

The permits "need to be amended for our use, which is a far easier and faster process than going through permitting," she later clarified of the process.
