A long-time seafood executive's ambitious plan to develop a Maryland property into a massive land-based salmon farming project has been scrapped, but the serial entrepreneur has walked away with a small stake in a separate project.

Jonathan Brown, who owns Grant's Smoked Foods in the UK, was seeking partners willing to develop a land-based salmon farming project on a 90,000-acre former poultry operation he co-owns.

In September 2019, Brown entered into talks with Norwegian executives developing a land-based salmon farming project in the United States, with the intent of exchanging the land for an equity stake in the group.
