US land-based salmon farmer Whole Oceans plans to begin construction work on its recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) Atlantic salmon production facility on the site of the former Verso Paper Mill in Bucksport, Maine, in 2023.
The project, which has been in limbo after months of delays and a string of top management departures, is now being prepared for construction on a previously approved lot, according to Whole Oceans Senior Project Manager Mike Thompson.
In addition, the company is finishing off design work needed for permit applications for a tract of land -- which the company calls Lot 3 -- that will be included in the project.
