Redundancy notices were sent out Wednesday to 339 employees at four of Leroy Seafood Group's processing operations.

The company is blaming the layoffs on the disruption being caused by a proposed Norwegian tax hike that its says prevents it and other salmon farming companies from entering into long-term sales contracts with customers.

The potential redundancies take effect from Jan. 1.

"The redundancies will initially be effective from January until the end of March. We don't know what happens after that," Leroy Communication Manager Aina Valland told IntraFish.
