Chilean salmon producer Marine Farm is expecting to see much higher farmed coho salmon prices in the United States in the coming months.

The trend is currently reflected in soaring salmon prices around the world, despite a sharp fall in Norwegian salmon prices last week for delivery this week.

Coho accounts for 60 percent of Marine Farm's 50,000 metric tons of annual production, with Atlantic salmon making up the remainder

The company's three main markets for salmon produced in the southern Los Lagos and Aysen regions of Chile are the United States, Brazil and Japan, a key market for coho, which is harvested in a season running from July to January or February.
