Chilean farmed salmon producers selling into the US market are expecting to see an uptick in prices in the coming weeks, helped by reduced availability.
At this time of year, prices for fresh D-Trim FOB Miami farmed salmon might have been expected to be at around $6 (€5.38) per pound, but market sources currently put prices in a range between $5.30-$5.50 (€4.75-€5.30) per pound, with retail contracts attracting higher levels.
Last month, prices slipped to around $5 (€4.49) per pound, the break-even point for many producers.
