Sernapesca, Chile's National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service, said it is overseeing a contingency operation following the mass die-off of around 300,000 Atlantic salmon at a farm operated by Multi X in the South American nation's southern Los Lagos region.
With fish weighing an average of 4.3 kilogram the weight of losses equates to roughly 1,200 metric tons.
The company, formerly known as Multiexport, reported the incident at the San Luis production site in the Reloncavi estuary to Sernapesca on May 18.
