Biological issues for Mowi's Canada East division and major government changes being made to its British Columbia operations continue to negatively impact the salmon farming giant's Canadian operations, according to its first quarter report.

The company reported a combined first quarter loss before interest and taxation (EBIT) of €10.9 million ($13.3 million) across both East and West divisions, more than three times the loss in the same quarter the year prior.

Canada operations stood out negatively amid Mowi reporting overall stable earnings in the second quarter globally, where it managed to offset lower prices with a 9 percent drop in costs.
