The Canadian government on Friday released an outline of the next steps in its plan to transition from netpen aquaculture in British Columbia to land-based and other closed-containment systems by 2025.

The Canada Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) released a "framework for discussion" that mapped out a series of workshops and meetings with industry, First Nations, local governments and conservation groups.

The first phase in the information gathering process, DFO said, will include an online survey for public input.
