The reversal of a DKK 67 million (€9 million/$10 million) fine leveled on Faroese salmon farmer Bakkafrost for alleged animal welfare violations is now under scrutiny over potential conflicts of interest.

Faroese police authorities told an appellate court last week they would fine Bakkafrost for violating the Animal Welfare Act, according to the country's broadcaster KVF.

Court officials contacted the Faroe Islands Ministry of Trade and Industry about the allegations, and following consultations with food regulators police were asked to drop the case.
