Salmon farming giant Mowi, which recently was granted permission for new farm in Ireland after a decade-long wait, has applied for further licenses in the country, hoping to breathe new life into a sector that was at one time among the leading producers in salmon outside of Norway.

The permission for a new organic salmon farm, located in Bantry Bay on the Southwest coast of Ireland, will allow the group to construct the first new salmon farm in the country in 17 years, making it "a big milestone for the whole industry," Mowi Ireland Technical Manager Catherine McManus told IntraFish.
