The Newfoundland crab industry introduced the world's first crab plant robot, which will extract crabmeat from shells, an intensive manual labor job often carried out overseas as it is too expensive in Newfoundland and Labrador plants, according to CBC News.

The machine was a collaboration between Canadian Centre for Fisheries Innovation, the College of the North Atlantic, Ocean Choice International and the Marine Institute, according to the news site.

"Younger people are not being attracted to the industry," said Canadian Centre for Fisheries Innovation Managing Director Bob Verge.
