The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) refused the smallest number of shrimp entry lines because of banned antibiotics since 2006, but the figures was only slightly below the previous 12 months' total of 55.

In December, three out of the 78 (5.6 percent) total seafood entry line refusals stemmed from shrimp for reasons related to banned antibiotics, according to wild shrimp association the Southern Shrimp Alliance (SSA).

The December numbers brought the total shrimp entry lines refused for reasons related to banned antibiotics to 53.
