Despite all we keep hearing about the changing landscape in the United Kingdom, the processing sector - in particular Scotland's - remains heavily reliant on a European workforce, according to Lewis Cowie, economics researcher with Seafish.

The trade body’s most up to date annual survey on employment in the processing sector in 2018 – which surveyed 11,000 workers – found that at least 51 percent were EU nationals.

“So it is clear the processing sector in the United Kingdom remains heavily reliant on EU workforce, particularly those from Poland, Lithuania and Bulgaria,” said Cowie.
