Icelandic high-tech equipment provider Skaginn 3X secured the sale of a sub-chilling system to Norwegian salmon producer Sotra Fiskeindustri, the companies said.

The system allows for fish to be cooled down to -1.5 degrees Celsius, extending product shelf-life and improving processing yield, with a significant reduction of carbon footprint.

"If we can get the fish below 0 degrees, we will see several benefits," Sotra’s general manager Kjell Inge Eide said.

"We can almost eliminate the use of ice in our boxes.
