A new Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) funded certification standard for seafood processing plants could be available as early as January.

Global Seafood Assurances (GSA), a body set up by GAA in April, was conceived as part of an effort to ensure traceability standards where gaps exist in the seafood supply chain, GAA Communications Manager Steve Hedlund told IntraFish.

The new GSA Seafood Processing Standards will replace the Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) Seafood Processing Plant Standards, meaning any plant applying for certification or re-certification must be audited against the latest version of the standards once they’re put to market.
