Marine Harvest France has no immediate plans to rebuild its smoked salmon Kritsen plant in Landivisau, France, after confirming that a fire reported earlier this month destroyed 95 percent of the facilities.

“It is clear that we cannot produce anymore in the remaining parts of the plant,” Margreet Van Harn, marketing and innovation director for Marine Harvest in the Benelux area, told IntraFish.

Marine Harvest’s management team was unable to access the site for two days after the fire broke out on July 11 for security reasons, but has now determined all operations have to be diverted to other countries at least for the remainder of the year.
