Marine Harvest announced plans to build a new value-added plant in Surrey, near Vancouver, after it received the necessary permits.

“The plant is expected to start operations towards the end of the second quarter of 2017,” the company said in its quarterly report.

It will have a processing capacity of 12,000 metric tons a year, and will serve to supply customers in western Canada and the United States.

“The investment for the project is estimated at €2.5 million ($2.6 million), not including the building itself, which will be leased,” the company said.
