French supermarket chain Casino said it turned to Lorient-based supplier Krustanord to source shrimp for its reduced-salt line after the processor convinced the retailer it was up to the task.

The "Rose" line has 25 percent less salt and is the fruit of two years of research and development work.

Casino is currently test-marketing headless and whole shrimp lines in 450 stores and Géant hypermarkets before deciding whether to extend sales to the wider Casino group, which includes Monoprix and Franprix.
