French authorities issued nearly 90 warnings to seafood processors, wholesalers, traders and distributors as part of an investigation aimed at uncovering fraudulent practices in the industry.

Details of the enforcement actions were just released and are the result of a probe carried out in 2016 that targeted the use of unauthorized or undeclared additives in seafood.

Among other things, investigators wanted to understand the extent of the practice of increasing product weight by injecting water-based solutions containing ingredients such as potassium lactate, potassium acetate and nitrates/nitrites.
