Processors in China are struggling to cope with the unsteady supplies of wild salmon coming from Alaska, Sebastien Roussel, general manager at France's Direct Ocean, told IntraFish.

The company sources around 3,000 metric tons of double-frozen pink and chum salmon from China every year to sell it on to industrial customers and wholesalers.

Processors already had difficulties last year, resulting in financial and cash-flow problems, which were dragged into this year.

"A number of Chinese plants are a little bit afraid at the moment," Roussel said.
