Bellingham, Washington-based Bornstein Seafoods is closing the groundfish processing portion of its Bellingham operations later this month, the company's CEO confirmed with IntraFish on Monday.

Bornstein Seafoods CEO Colin Bornstein said it has become too costly to process the fish in Washington state, and the company plans to consolidate its groundfish processing in Oregon, where it can save up to $100,000 (€89,430) per year in logistics alone.

"Oregon is closer to the source," he said of the company's groundfish fishing operations, which are located off of the coasts of Oregon and Washington.
