Norway-based processor and distributor Villa Seafood is building a new 10,000 metric-ton salmon factory near Oslo to allow it to keep pace with surging demand.

"We hope to start producing on the new line from the first quarter of 2023," Egil Ove Sundheim, the company's marketing director, told IntraFish at the Barcelona seafood show.

Villa Seafood will set up the new fillet line for salmon and trout in the Nittedal municipality, between Oslo and Gardermoen airport, where a rising volume of salmon is shipped via air freight as demand grows for value-added salmon products globally.
