The British Frozen Food Federation (BFFF) is calling on the UK government to raise the harvest quota for coldwater shrimp imports to prevent buyers and end consumers being hurt by damaging tariffs.

"This year's tariff quota for coldwater prawns is likely to be exhausted by the end of the summer," outgoing BFFF CEO Richard Harrow wrote in a letter to the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) Minister George Eustace.

In a subsequent interview, Harrow told IntraFish that there are around 1,840 metric tons of the 6,500 metric tons import quota remaining before 20 percent duties kick in.
