Norwegian salmon farming giant Mowi maintained its position as the world's largest salmon producer in 2021.

The company, which is headquartered in Bergen, Norway, and produces in six countries, last year harvested 517,800 metric tons of whole, ungutted salmon (WFE), according to market analysis firm Kontali.

Last year, for the first time, more than 5 million metric tons of farmed and wild salmon were harvested, up 13 percent from 2020, said Kontali.
