Thai Union-owned German seafood processor Rugen Fisch said Wednesday it will transfer the production of its subsidiary, Hawesta Feinkost Hans Westphal (Hawesta), to its existing manufacturing site in Sassnitz on the island of Rugen, and, as a result, will close its plant in Lubeck.

The Hawesta works council and the 200 impacted employees have been informed of the plans, and discussions with employee representatives have begun, said the company.

Rugen Fisch added it would like to retain as many employees as possible for the production in Sassnitz, and is currently exploring options for supporting a move from Lubeck to Sassnitz.
