Peterhead, Scotland-based whitefish processor Thistle Seafoods said it expects to see continued profitability in 2020 despite challenging business conditions.

This comes as the company releases figures for 2019 showing a near 14 percent increase in pre-tax profit to £3.1 million (€3.4/$4 million).

The increase was supported by a 10 percent rise in sales to £98.4 million (€107.8 million/$127.4 million).

"The board continues to work with our principle customers and suppliers in this continuing difficult business environment and are confident that these actions will lead to continued profitability for the financial year 2020," the company said in its financial report filed with the United Kingdom's Companies House.
