The first remote phytosanitary inspection of a Chilean salmon processing plant by Russian officials has taken place at a Blumar site in the South American nation's central Biobio region, Chile's National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca) said.

Checks at the plant were carried out in real time by inspectors from the Rosselkoznadzhor health authority in Russia.

They are part of a strategy agreed to with Russia to allow phytosanitary inspections to continue under COVID-19 travel restrictions.
