Nearly 40% of Trident's Akutan employees COVID-positive; cases discovered on key Alaska pollock trawler

Trident Seafoods on Thursday reported that 38 percent of employees at its remote Akutan, Alaska processing facility have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, with additional cases discovered on one of the company's three catcher-processor vessels.

A total of 266 out of 706 workers at Trident Seafoods' Akutan plant had tested positive for COVID-19 as of Jan. 28, the company said.

Of the total workforce, around 100 have been flown to Anchorage, some 750 miles away, in case medical complications develop during their quarantine.
