Scotland's Highland Council has granted planning permission for a £15 million (€17.7 million/$20.4 million) upgrade to Mowi’s Blar Mhor salmon processing facility in Fort William, Scotland.

The upgrade will transform the factory “into one of the most efficient and highest capacity fish processing facilities in the world,” said Mowi.

The 700-square-meter expansion is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2022.

Icelandic equipment giant Marel will provide gutting lines, graders and packing lines for the facility, while fellow Icelandic company Samey will provide robotic solutions for final product box stacking.
