A consumer lawsuit was filed Dec. 31 against Mowi and US smoked salmon subsidiary Ducktrap in the District Court of Maine over alleged "false sustainability" claims.
The lead plaintiff, Abigail Starr, filed a class action complaint alleging Ducktrap is misleading customers with packaging that says its salmon is sustainably sourced.
The suit alleges “false and deceptive marketing and sale” of Mowi's smoked Atlantic salmon products which are “labeled as sustainably sourced when the products are produced using unsustainable industrial farming practices.”
