Surimi production in Japan's Hokkaido region shrank by 9 percent in the first six months of this year.

The cumulative production of frozen surimi from January through June at the five onshore factories in Hokkaido amounted to 5,418 metric tons, a decrease of 9 percent from the same time last year, according to Japan's National Surimi Association.

Alaska pollock surimi production decreased by 20 percent to 4,305 metric tons, and Atka mackerel surimi production fell to 859 metric tons.

Surimi production in June alone was 1,048 metric tons, a decrease of 31 percent from the same month last year.
