One of France's most influential consumer product guide publications this week released an analysis of top private label and branded smoked salmon and trout items, claiming the products contain worrying levels of hydrocarbons and excessive levels of sodium.

The publication, 60 millions des consammateurs, released its findings just as smoked salmon and trout buying for the festive season gets into full swing, and with consumers expected to purchase most of its products from the retail sector with the coronavirus pandemic forcing many foodservice establishments to close or remain open with restrictions.
