Seafood company executives face a minefield of inflationary pressures in the area of plastic packaging and paper prices, and upcoming changes to regulations are almost certain to further increase costs for processors in the United Kingdom and other countries.

With companies pivoting away from foodservice business in favor of retail during the pandemic, higher packaging costs have become all the more noticeable to executives struggling to contain costs.

"Everything is becoming scarcer and more expensive, including wood, steel and also plastics," Stephanie Koetter-Gribbe, managing partner at German plastics firm Best Plastic Management, told letsrecycle.com.
