Chilean seafood producer Camanchaca has signed a clean energy deal with liquid gas supplier Ligas.

The five-year deal covers the company's shrimp and mussel operations at Tome in the southern central region of Biobio and at Rauco on Chiloe island.

The agreement should allow Camanchaca to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by almost 6,000 metric tons, an equivalent to withdrawing almost 1,500 cars from circulation or planting 12,000 trees during its duration, the company said.

Earlier this month, Camanchaca signed a 100-percent renewable energy deal with utility firm Colbun.
