Maine-based Bristol Seafood said Monday it has completed a significant investment in its groundfish business with the purchase of new equipment and technology developed and installed by processing equipment maker Marel.

This investment gives Bristol new capabilities such as precision grading of portions and fillets, custom processing, and custom batching, the company said.

The company is using the new equipment to help it launch a retail line of USA-processed Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified cod and haddock portions. These products, like the company's "My Fish Dish" line, are produced in its Portland, Maine facility.

"This investment and partnership with Marel gives us new capabilities that will bring our customers unmatched quality, consistency, precision, and customization," said Peter Handy, president and CEO of Bristol.
