Brazilian fish processors are leading seafood industry demands for BRL 500 million (€83 million/$90 million) in government support to help businesses stay afloat and prevent thousands of job losses amid the coronavirus health crisis.

They are also demanding tax breaks, subsidized credit and emergency loan guarantees as Economy Minister Paulo Guedes prepares to outline a package of aid measures to help struggling industries.

Without these measures, at least 2,000 seafood jobs are at risk and catches will fall by 30 percent, Eduardo Lobo, president of processors association ABIPESCA told IntraFish.
