Bellingham, Washington-state based Bornstein Seafoods has taken over a lease for a processing facility in Alaska.

Local Alaska news site Homer News reported Friday the company had taken over Polar Seafood’s lease on the east side of Resurrection Bay in Seward, Alaska. The company is currently hiring for workers at the plant for processing in March.

The owner, Polar Seafood, reached out to Bornstein about taking over the lease last year, the news site reported.

Bornstein said on its website the new location serves as its most northern offload dock and processing facility. Salmon, halibut, black cod, cod and pollock will all be sourced and processed there.

Bornstein's primary processing operation is located in Astoria, Oregon, where the company handles groundfish, salmon, albacore tuna, whiting, sturgeon, Dungeness Crab, and coldwater shrimp.

The company also processes seafood products at is facility in Newport, Oregon.

In Bellingham, Bornstein operates a high-capacity fresh and frozen processing facility for groundfish, halibut, salmon, Dungeness crab, and albacore tuna. Bellingham is also home to the majority of Bornstein's custom processing, value-added production programs and a smokehouse.
