Chilean salmon farmer Australis Seafood's $70 million (€59 million) processing facility in Puerto Natales is facing public opposition over its proximity to a residential zone, Radiodelmar reported.

The "mega" factory is just one kilometer away from Puerto Natales, which is home to about 20,000 people.

Australis is aiming to process 71,280 metric tons of salmon per year exporting directly to the United States, Japan and Russia among other key markets.
