Norwegian salmon prices are up slightly compared with last week, by as much as NOK 2 (€0.20/$0.23) to NOK 3 (€0.29/$0.35) per kilogram on average, according to industry players.

“It is an increasing trend today, with a slow start,” one exporter told IntraFish.

This week there has been a small increase with prices of between NOK 53 (€5.20/$6.10) and NOK 65 (€6.40/$7.50), with the increase applying especially to the small sizes.

Last week, there were some price gaps and some Infectious Salmon Anaemia (ISA) harvesting, according to suppliers IntraFish interviewed.

This week, however, one exporter said he sold fish for between NOK 55 (€5.40/$6.40) and NOK 65 (€6.40/$7.50) on industrial sizes.

According to Nasdaq, the average price of salmon last week was NOK 59.09 (€5.80/$6.80), which was a decrease of NOK 2.43 (€0.24/$0.28) from the week prior.

This week, market players told IntraFish the price will likely land at an average price of around NOK 60 (€5.90/$6.90).

“There was a much higher harvest volume from Norway last week,” one producer told IntraFish.

The producer has sold fish of between 3 and 6 kilos for between NOK 54 (€5.30/$6.20) and NOK 61 (€6/$7.10) so far.

“It is rising from last week, but with a little help from currency fluctuations,” he said. “There are still ISA fish, but we are getting better prices for fish between 2 and 4 kilos.”

He believes the second half of the year will be positive for prices.

“We actually have high expectations for the second half of the year when markets start to reopen a bit after the pandemic,” said the producer.

“We also know that there will be a period now where sea temperatures mean that there will be good growth in the future. We are most excited about July and August in the short term.”

Another exporter also reported a slight increase in prices.

“We are probably up NOK 2 (€0.20/$0.23) to NOK 3 (€0.29/$0.35) from last Friday,” he said.

“As we see it, there is good growth and decent growth conditions at the moment, so when we start approaching the end of July, there will probably be pressure on prices again.”

There is little surplus fish in the market as well, he said.
