With the US market effectively halted for Norwegian salmon, and Asian buyers having already met their needs, selling the largest fish, the so-called six plus, has become a difficult task.

Being too large for most processing machinery makes them less attractive under current market conditions.

"The coronavirus crisis is still affecting the markets, there is no doubt about it. Prices of 3-6 kilo fish remain stable very low in the [NOK] 50s (€4.40/$4.70)," one exporter told IntraFish.

The saving grace for Norway's producers is an unusually weak Norwegian krone, which has lost 20 percent of its value in recent weeks.
