Among the top 20 aquaculture producing countries by volume, China, Indonesia, India, Vietnam and Bangladesh have held on to the top five spots for several years. Producers moving up in the ranks include Egypt, Chile, Brazil, Educador, Iran and Spain. The rise of the countries has led to a drop in the rankings of global aquaculture producers for Thailand, the Philippines, Japan, the United States and Taiwan.

When looking at the top 20 aquaculture countries by value, the United Kingdom and Canada have displaced Spain and Nigeria as countries that produce farmed fish and shellfish at higher prices, but at lower metric tons of output.
