Family-owned Norwegian salmon farmer Kvaroy Fiskeoppdrett named Pia Moeller CEO for its newly acquired smolt production division, Kvaroy Smolt.

Prior to joining Kvaroy, Moeller was CFO of Norway's second largest grocer, Coop Helgeland, for eight years.

Kvaroy Fiskeoppdrett now receives two-thirds of its smolt from Kvaroy Smolt, formerly known as Ranfjord Fiskeprodukter.

The smolt team of 10 employees produces over 5.5 million smolt per year.

In addition to buying smolt from Kvaroy Smolt, Kvaroy Arctic will continue to secure a supply of smolt from Gryttaga Settefisk.

The Whole Foods' Norwegian salmon supplier was recently certified by the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Heart Check program.

Kvaroy is teaming up with the James Beard Foundation to create a first-of-its-kind scholarship for women in aquaculture.

The $10,000 (€9,219) scholarship is for women studying in any field related to aquaculture, Jennifer Bushman, a spokeswoman for Kvaroy, told IntraFish. The scholarship is also available to use at any college or university in any country.
