US Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska on Wednesday eulogized Trident Seafoods founder Chuck Bundrant on the floor of the US Senate -- a rare and unusual recognition given to citizens of the United States.

Bundrant, who died Sunday at the age of 79, was "a fisherman who forever changed the seafood industry in Alaska," Murkowski said.

The Senator went on to give some of the highlights of Bundrant's life and his role in bringing Alaska seafood international recognition.

"He was a truly honorable man," Murkowski said in her 13-minute long talk.

Bundrant founded Trident Seafoods in 1973 with partners Kaare Ness and Mike Jacobson, building it up into the largest seafood company in North America.

Trident today harvests and processes over 550,000 metric tons of seafood with over 40 vessels and nearly 30 value-added facilities.
