Virginia recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) tilapia farmer Blue Ridge Aquaculture has a new president.

The company announced earlier this week it promoted Martin Gardner to the role. Gardner is responsible for the successful execution of the company’s growth strategy, developing new markets and meeting corporate financial targets, the company said.

Gardner joined the company in 2007 as its director of business development. After completing several R&D projects, he was promoted to vice president of strategic development in 2018.

His primary focuses for the company have been in the United States, South America and Africa.

In 2020 the company invested $2.5 million (€2.1 million) in a RAS hatchery in Martinsville, Virginia, to support existing farming operations.

Blue Ridge produces 4 million pounds of tilapia each year at its indoor facility in Virginia, and ships between 10,000 and 20,000 pounds of live fish daily.
