Scottish Sea Farms has promoted Richard Darbyshire, long-standing regional manager for Orkney, to the newly created role of Northern Isles Regional Manager.

Darbyshire will be responsible for the company’s Shetland and Orkney farms, supported by two new area managers for which a recruitment process is getting underway.

Under a restructuring, Scottish Sea Farm's three existing farming regions are being consolidated into two similar sized areas; the Northern Isles and mainland Scotland.

This comes as the company sharpens its focus on sustainability in the sector.

Innes Weir, who joined the company in December 2019, will oversee its farms on the Scottish mainland.

“It’s really important that we have local boots on the ground in each area -- sector-experienced figures who understand the local marine conditions and have their sleeves rolled up ready to support our farm teams," Scottish Sea Farms’ Managing Director Jim Gallagher said.
