Norwegian krill processor Rimfrost has appointed Julio Lopez Alvarado as its new vice president of sales for aquaculture.

He will be in charge of developing Rimfrost's shrimp and marine fish feeds business, and will be based in Edinburgh.

Alvarado, who has been working in the aquaculture sector for over 30 years, has previously held positions in R&D, production and sales in Japan, Ecuador, Spain, and United Kingdom. He has an MSc in Aquaculture from the University of Stirling and a PhD in fish nutrition from Kagoshima.

Krill is mainly processed into meal for aquaculture and other protein production, but Rimfrost has focused efforts on the higher-paying market of health foods and supplements.

The company is a fierce rival to Kjell Inge Rokke-owned Aker Biomarine, and the two have been involved in a number of legal disputes both in Norway and other countries.
