On Friday NOAA Fisheries announced it hired Danielle Blacklock as its new director for its Office of Aquaculture.

Blacklock will lead the office’s work on regulation and policy, science, outreach and international activities in support of US aquaculture, the agency said.

She will oversee the aquaculture component of NOAA’s sustainable seafood portfolio, and will be responsible for providing the strategic vision for developing a strong marine aquaculture industry in the United States.

In addition to federal aquaculture, Blacklock will also support the development of state and land-based aquaculture as well.

She has served in various roles within the agency for the past 10 years. Most recently, she has been serving as a senior policy adviser for aquaculture.
