Kurt Oddekalv, founder and leader of the Norwegian Environmental Protection Association, died on Monday after falling through the ice near his home in Bergen.

Oddekalv founded the Norwegian Environmental Protection Association in 1993, after he broke with the Norwegian Nature Conservation Association.

He was a strong opponent of Norwegian salmon farming, wind power, and many other environmental issues.

His son Ruben Oddekalv has followed in his father's footsteps all his life.
